Dubai: A domestic helper has been jailed for one year for taking a six-year-old girl, who was going to a neighbour’s birthday party, to the rooftop of a building and molesting her.
The 29-year-old Pakistani defendant, R.R., was said to have muzzled the Indian girl to prevent her from shouting when he dragged her up to the roof and abused her.
“I did not do such a thing,” contended R.R. when he entered an innocent plea before the Dubai Court of First Instance.
Presiding judge Mohammad Jamal convicted R.R. on Sunday of molesting the girl.
The accused will be deported after his imprisonment.
Prosecutors charged R.R. with kissing the girl and engaging in indecent behaviour with her.
The girl’s mother said the incident happened shortly after she sent her girl to attend a party at the neighbour’s on October 17.
“We were both invited to the party. I asked her to go ahead while I changed my clothes. Five minutes later, my neighbour’s son came and asked me about my daughter. I told him that she had already gone to their place, but he said she hadn’t arrived. I was worried. When I went to look for her, she was standing silently in the corridor and seemed afraid. I took her inside and she immediately asked me to lock the door. She said while she was going to the party, the defendant pulled her by her arm and took her up to the roof.
